Transformation of Jewish identity in post-war Czech and Luxembourg generations

Abstract

The aim of the thesis is to analyze and compare the development and changes of Jewish identity and Jewishness in post-war Jewish generations in the years 1945-1990 born or living in the Czech lands (Czech, Moravia, Silesia) and Luxembourg. The research focuses only on the territory of the Czech lands (Czech Republic) and Luxembourg; it does not include the current Slovak territory. The author's intention is to compare the development of Judaism and Jewish identity between members of the second and third post-war Jewish generations who were influenced by two different political systems - the Western Liberal Democracy and the Eastern Communist regime. The work aims to find similarities and differences in predetermined aspects that directly and indirectly have influenced the life of both Jewish communities in Luxembourg and the current Czech Republic. Individual aspects and factors were determined as follows: the path to Judaism and its formation in two different political regimes; attitude towards the state of Israel; antisemitism. Cílem práce je analyzovat a porovnat vývoj a změny židovské identity a židovství u poválečných židovských generací v letech 1945-1990 narozených nebo žijících v českých zemích (Čechy, Morava, Slezsko) a v Lucembursku. Výzkum se zaměřuje pouze na území českých zemí (Česká republika) a Lucemburska; nezahrnuje současné slovenské území. Záměrem autora je porovnat vývoj judaismu a židovské identity mezi příslušníky druhé a třetí poválečné židovské generace, kteří byli ovlivněni dvěma různými politickými systémy-západní liberální demokracií a východním komunistickým režimem. Práce si klade za cíl nalézt podobnosti a rozdíly v předem stanovených výzkumných kategoriích, které přímo i nepřímo ovlivnily život obou židovských komunit v Lucembursku a v současné České republice. Jednotlivé kategorie a faktory byly stanoveny následovně: cesta k judaismu a jeho formování ve dvou různých politických režimech; postoj ke státu Izrael a antisemitismus. Práce se snaží najít různé srovnávací parametry pro mezigenerační analýzu rozmanitých postojů k Izraeli, vlivu antisemitismu na poválečné židovské generace a porozumět procesům, které se podílejí na formování a předávání české a lucemburské židovské identity.
