Abstract

The paper summarizes our present knowledge and presents a new hypothesis on the origin of the morphostructure of he Moravian Gate. It emphasizes, among others, the differences in the morphostructural development between its SW and NE parts. The Moravian Gate as a distinct tectonically controlled depression began to develop in the Miocene and before the Sadenian. Its present major features, however, date from the post-Badenian period
