komunikativně regulativní jednotky, diskurzní částice now, české ekvivalentyThis article, theoretically anchored in functional and systemic grammar, focuses on the discourse marker now and its Czech functional equivalents. Discourse markers belong to the system of communicatively-regulative units that help to regulate the smooth flow of communication and overt linguistic manifestation of politeness and tact. Although the main function remains the same, the choice of discourse markers in different situations is culture-bound and language-specific. The aim of this corpus-based analysis was twofold: (1) to establish whether translators mostly make use of dictionary equivalents or are more creative, (2) to compare the functions of the Czech equivalents with the functions of the discourse particle now to discover whether translators are sufficiently sensitive to the strategies underlying the use of now in the original text.
