L'Émancipation de la femme dans Les Liaisons dangereuses de Pierre Choderlos de Laclos

Abstract

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to scrutinize, through a detailed literary and sociological analysis, the theme of women's emancipation featuring in the epistolary novel, Dangerous Liaisons, by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. This work will principally concentrate on the question of female identity of the three characters, Cecile, Tourvel and Merteuil, in the context of the Enlightenment. We will examine the text by taking into consideration two contrasting approaches, traditional and contemporary, in order to demonstrate the ambiguity of the interpretation. We will attempt to characterize the female protagonists and consequently categorize them on the bases of contextual typology of characters. Simultaneously on the poetic and narrative level, we will attempt to exemplify their emancipatory attempts examining the heroines in connection with their female identity and philosophical conception of the Enlightenment about humanity. Having analysed their portrayals, it will be observed how the novel offers an eventual feminist reading while referring to the possibility of women's emancipation. Cílem této bakalářské práce je prostřednictvím podrobného literárního a sociologického rozboru prozkoumat téma ženské emancipace v románu v dopisech, Nebezpečné známosti od Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. Tato práce se v zásadě zaměří na otázku ženské identity tří postav, Cecile, Tourvel a Merteuil, v kontextu Osvícenství. K textu bude přihlédnuto na bázi dvou protichůdných teorií, tradiční a současné, se zaměřením se na ambivalenci interpretace díla. Cílem bude hrdinky charakterizovat a následně kategorizovat na základě kontextuální typologie postav. Jak na poetické, tak narativní úrovni, se budeme snažit vykreslit trasy emancipace u hrdinek románu v přímé souvislosti s ženskou identitou a filozofickým hnutím. Skrz literární rozbor, zpozorujeme potencionální prvky feminismu a problematiku zaobírajíc se potencionální emancipací ženy. V závěru zjistíme, že se jedná o kvazi-kompletní spektrum ženských postav, které z části představují literární topos fatální hrdinky, inspirovaný klasickou tragédií, nebo naopak podle současných literárních koncepcí, se nám nabízí možnost je interpretovat jako oběti patriarchální společnosti.
