In this paper we deal with the possibilities of substitution of different forms of the adverb pozdě withthe adverb dlouho. We analyse data from the Czech National Corpus (ORAL 2013 and SYN2013pub).Considering different types of substitutions, we try to find out, with the help of various substitutiontests, whether it is necessary to take into consideration the aspect of a verb, to which an adverb is related,or it is necessary to consider its semantics or other factors. We claim that particularly the formdýl has a potential to replace the form později in connection with some verbs and that such a substitutionleads either to semantically ambiguous constructions or to potential misunderstandings insome contexts and for some speakers of Czech.
