Those states have abandoned the idea of assimilating this ethnic group so that the Roma people can preserve their identity, culture and language. As a result of this the Romani have ceased to be the object of the state's policy and have become the subject of it. This paper gives a general presentation of the education of the Roma people as exemplified by the situation of it in Poland and the Czech Republic, in the context of the ongoing changes which are shaping contemporary education systems. It discusses the characteristics of the Romani ethnic group and its situation as well as the conditions of the Romani's participation in the culture and education of a majority state. The time frame adopted in this paper encompasses the period between 1945 and 2014, while also referring in the introduction...
