Poli ti ka mezi válečného Československa vůči mimoevropským zemím není v české a slovenské odborné literatuře prakticky vůbec zpracována. Příčinou, proč tato tematika dosud z valné části leží na okraj i vědeckého zájmu, je patrně s ku tečnost, že československá republika v těchto zemích až na nečetné výjimky neměla žádné zvláštní politické zájmy. Vztahy k mimoevropským státům byly pro meziválečné Československo důležité především po hospodářské stránce. Jednou z uvedených výjimek byla Osmanská říše, respektive Turecká republika. Důvodem byla především skutečnost, že tato země ležela na pomezí oblasti, o kterou Československo projevovalo hluboký zájem - na pomezí Balkánského poloostrova. česká a ve značně menší míře i slovenská politika a veřejné mínění se o oblast Balkánu začaly zajímat již po krymské válce. Období intensivního zájmu však nastalo až v 70. letech 19. století v souvislosti s tzv. dubnovým povstáním na území dnešního Bulharska a s následnou rusko-osmanskou válkou. Tehdejší česká liberální politika neskrývala svůj kladný postoj k emancipačnímu hnutí balkánských národů, které souviselo s obecnějším procesem pozvolného rozkladu mnohonárodnostních říší v druhé polovině 19. století. České (a také slovenské) sympatie Sl získaly hlavně balkánští Slované - Srbové a Bulhaři, částečně pak i Řekové....
