Vztahy Velké Británie a Spojených států amerických v období po skončení války o nezávislost nepatří k obdobím, jež by budila větší zájem. Pozornost se soustředí především na americkou revoluci, případně na britsko-americký konflikt v letech 1812-13. V kontextu celosvětových událostí přitahuje největší pozornost Velká francouzská revoluce a následné války. Dokonce i proslulý americký historik Henry Adams poznamenal, že se jedná o "nezajímavé období"; sám o něm nicméně napsal dvě práce mimořádného rozsahu a kvality. Vzájemné vztahy v této době se přesto vyznačují mnoha momenty, které stojí "za povšimnutí". Konečně, zabývat se pouze velkými epochami v historii není možné, jelikož by se tím celkový pohled zúžil na několik málo událostí. Vztahy Británie a USA v tomto období přitahují pozornost z několika hledisek. Oba státy spojovala společná historie, kultura a jazyk. Na druhou stranu poznamenala jejich vztahy válka, která měla částečně charakter války občanské. Nutně tak musely vzniknout rozpory, z nichž bylo třeba hledat východiska; další problémy vznikaly i po válce. Obě země se se střídavými úspěchy snažily hledat řešení, přičemž docházelo ke krizím a smířování zároveň. Další zajímavou skutečností je fakt, že se jednalo o konfrontaci tradičního přístupu k diplomacii a politice obecně s nově vzniklým státem,...
The thesis attend to relations between USA and Great Britain from the peace treaty of 1783 until the abortive convention of 1807. It is focused on chosen issues of the relations and analyses their development. The first part gives an outline of these issues after the peace treaty. The main goal for the second part is the development and changes of the problems and a conclusion for this period is Jay-Geenville Treaty. The final part is focused on an aftermath of this treaty and the relations after 1800. The thesis conteins also a short analyse ofWar of 1812. The main sources for this work are printed documents, books and journals.
