Popisována je zde především jazyková politika, politika tzv. asimilace a systém školství francouzských kolonizátorů. Druhá část této práce se zabývá jazyky v Západní Africe, především v Senegalu a Pobřeží Slonoviny. Popisuje vliv francouzské kolonizace na dnešní jazykovou politiku, současný status francouzštiny a budoucnost francouzského jazyka v těchto zemích.
