Cílem práce bylo popsat obraz Státní bezpečnosti ve dvou tak odlišných denících, jakými Lidové noviny a Rudé právo v době těsně po 17. listopadu 1989 byly. Odlišnost byla dána především sympatiemi vedení listu k určité straně politického spektra. Rudé právo bylo úzce spjato s komunistickou stranou, která se po 17. listopadu potýkala s porážkou svého režimu. Na druhou stranu Lidové noviny byly zakázaný deník, který v 80. letech vycházel nelegálně. První legální číslo vyšlo až v roce 1990. Rozdíl však nevycházel jen z tohoto faktu. Velký vliv na podobu zpráv Lidových novin má jejich příklon k Občanskému fóru. Ten je dokonce někdy na podobě zpráv o StB více patrný, než příklon Rudého práva ke komunistické straně.
