Abstract

Women's Religious Institutions and Nursing Care in the 19th and 20th Centuries Antonín Šťastný Institute for History of Medicine and Foreign Languages, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University The topic of women's religious institutions and nursing care in the 19th and 20th centuries offers an unconventional view of nursing. This issue can be viewed from many angles: demographically, socially, politically, gender, and more. From about the second third of the 19th century onwards, there was an increase in the number of nuns and congregations dedicated to nursing, and the subsequent developments in this field are linked to this. A number of factors played a major role in this situation, such as the reform of the ecclesiastical environment, the industrial boom, the mass migration to the cities and, above all, the absence of social legislation, which is why both ecclesiastical and secular institutions tried to alleviate the situation. This study seeks to describe the development of 19th and 20th century nursing within women's religious institutions and the way in which other aspects such as the development of education and professionalisation in the field were reflected in this activity. Ženské řeholní instituce a ošetřovatelská péče v 19. a 20. století Antonín Šťastný Ústav dějin lékařství a cizích jazyků 1. LFUK Téma ženských řeholních institucí a ošetřovatelská péče v 19. a 20. století nabízí netradiční pohled na ošetřovatelskou činnost. Tuto problematiku je možné vnímat z mnoha stran: demograficky, sociálně, politicky, z hlediska genderu a dalších. Zhruba od období druhé třetiny 19. století docházelo k nárůstu počtu řeholnic a kongregací věnujících se ošetřovatelské péči a s tím je svázán i následný vývoj v této oblasti. Velký podíl na tomto stavu měla řada faktorů, jako reforma v církevním prostředí, rozmach průmyslu, masové stěhování do měst a zejména absence sociálního zákonodárství, proto se církevní i světské instituce snažili zmírnit nastalou situaci. Studie se snaží popsat vývoj ošetřovatelství 19. a 20. století v rámci ženských řeholních institucí a způsob, jakým se do této činnosti promítaly další aspekty, jako rozvoj vzdělávání a profesionalizace v daném oboru. Řeholní kongregace a spolky byly jedinečným historickým fenoménem. Jejich působení bylo do určité míry časově podmíněno, a proto poměry pro jejich masové působení v našem prostoru již pominuly.
