The aim of the master thesis is to introduce the Romanian argot from both a diachronic and a synchronic perspective. The uniqueness of the thesis lies in the fact that this issue has not been dealt with in depth in our country so far. The reader will gradually get acquainted with the general characteristics of the argot, the historical development of the Romanian argot, its basic sources, and the approaches of individual scholars, in the past marked by ideology. The author of the work describes in detail the areas where this sociolect is most present and shows the greatest productivity. Based on the available literature, he introduces us to the processes of argot word formation. The master thesis is addressed to those interested in Romanian non-literary colloquial speech.
