Abstract

Tému diplomovej práce Intimálna hyperplázia a siRNA silencing som si zvolil na základe môjho dlhodobého záujmu o odbor cievnej chirurgie. Je to špecializovaný odbor, ktorého náplňou je liečba ochorení cievneho systému použitím farmakoterapie, minimálne invazívnych katétrových metód a chirurgickej rekonštrukcie. V ľudskom tele sa nachádzajú tri typy ciev - artérie, vény a lymfatické cievy. Medzi ich najčastejšie ochorenia patria ateroskleróza, arteriálne aneuryzmy, akútna arteriálna trombóza, hlboká žilná trombóza, tromboflebitída, varixy, žilné malformácie a lymfedém. Ateroskleróza je degeneratívne ochorenie tepien, charakterizované ložiskovou tvorbou väzivových plátov.Vo vyspelých krajinách Európy a Severnej Ameriky je dnes ateroskleróza najčastejšou príčinou smrti. Má na svedomí takmer 50% všetkých úmrtí pričom v 20-25% ide o samotnú sklerózu koronárnych artérií srdca. 1 Ešte počiatkom minulého storočia išlo o ochorenie pomerne vzácne. Vo vyspelých krajinách ale jej výskyt začal prudko stúpať a ateroskleróza sa postupne stala najhoršou epidémiou dvadsiateho storočia.
