The aim of this theses is using postcards and photographs to follow the urbanisational development of Brno's city center, comparing the contemporary reality and capturing the picture of society of that time, including its everydayness. It also involves an outline of important moments on the background of ongoing historical events of the 19th and 20th century. For studying and sorting of the visual resources, contemporary materials from Brno's archive collections and images from the official internet sites of the city and private collections have been used. The focused object is today known as the Square of Freedom in Brno. The theses pays attention to its changes and developments throughout the two centuries. This is observed through the postcards and photographs which have been further compared and described.
