Number ofpages: 82 Number of enclosures: 2 The year of the Oral Defence: 2008 Key words: Currency integration, Euro adoption, Theory ofOptimum Currency Area, Czech Republic Summary: The thesis is focused on the integration process of the Czech Republic into the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). The bellow text reflects the potentional gains and costs resulting from the Czech membership in the EMU. The study of what can the EMU bring us is based on the historical Mundell's theory. The Theory of Optimum Currency Areas and its criteria shows the real convergency process of the Czech Republic among the central European countries. The analysis of nominal and real convergency suggests how the Czech economy is prepared to be a full member ofthe EMU.
