This thesis deals with the topic of board and table games as an important aspect of everyday life in the roman society. Games were meant for people of all age and social classes. These activities were often connected with gambling which was criticised by many roman authors and also regulated by laws. The main focus of this thesis is on favourite games latrunculi and duodecim scripta with regard on their archaeological context. Its aim is to compare material culture with literary sources and iconographic evidence and to define time periods of concrete game phenomena.en_US
