Kánon anglofonních literatur v českém kontextu

Abstract

English Summary The present thesis deals with the various ways in which Anglophone literatures form their canon(s) in the Czech context. In doing so, it treats literature as one inseparable whole, consisting of poetry, prose and literary criticism. The latter is not understood as auxiliary literature, but rather as a self-sufficient form that deserves equal attention to so-called "creative writing"; after all, all the three major literary forms inevitably participate in canon formation, albeit in their own respective ways. The process of canon formation takes different turns and yields different results in the original, i.e. Anglophone, milieu and in the Czech context - and the canons that thus arise differ as well. Moreover, the debate on canons is always being complicated by their essentially unstable, variable nature; by definition, the process of canon formation is unfinished and interminable. Canons are not to be viewed as the be-all and end-all of literary analysis but rather as guideposts, useful tools that stimulate further study and permanently invite questioning and revisions of themselves. Přítomná práce pojednává o tom, jakým způsobem se utváří kánon anglofonních literatur v českém kontextu. Vychází přitom z konceptu trojjediné literatury, v jehož rámci pro poezii a prózu platí stejné zákonitosti jako pro literární kritiku: ta není vnímána jako služebné psaní, nýbrž jako svébytný literární druh, který zasluhuje stejnou pozornost jako tzv. "tvůrčí literatura". Na budování literárního kánonu se ovšem po svém podílejí všechny tři literární druhy. Proces utváření kánonu přitom probíhá zcela jinak a s jinými výsledky v původním, tj. anglofonním prostředí a v českém kontextu - a odlišné jsou i vzniknuvší kánony: kupříkladu soudobý český kánon americké prózy se znatelně liší od soudobého amerického kánonu americké prózy; totéž platí o poezii či o kritice apod. Definitivní závěry komplikuje bytostně nestálá, proměnlivá povaha kánonu (či spíše kánonů); proces jejich utváření je z definice neukončený a neukončitelný. Kánony není na místě vnímat jako cíl, v němž by se naplňovalo myšlení o literatuře, nýbrž jako vodítko, pomocný nástroj, který naopak podněcuje k dalšímu studiu a neustále vyzývá k zpochybňování a revizi sebe sama.
