Karel Engliš mezi prvorepublikovou elitou

Abstract

Hlavním cílem práce je analyzovat osobnost Karla Engliše, který byl významným představitelem vědeckých a finančních elit první republiky, dále vysvětlit příčiny jeho vzestupu v období první republiky a charakterizovat jeho vztahy s dalšími příslušníky elity. Pojem "elita" se vztahuje nejen na představitele politického a finančního života první republiky, ale také na významné představitele vědeckých a kulturních elit. Disertační práce se zaměřuje na vztahy mezi prvorepublikovou elitou a Karlem Englišem, v těchto vztazích hrálo významnou roli veřejné mínění a také řečeno dnešní terminologií mediální obraz K. Engliše. Nelze opomenout ani Englišovu vlastní rodinu, která ho na jedné straně podporovala, ale na druhé straně mu způsobovala různé problémy. Hlavní zdroje materiálů pro tuto práci jsem nalezl v Archivu Národního muzea v Praze, v Literárním archivu Památníku národního písemnictví v Praze, v Archivu Univerzity Karlovy v Praze, v Archivu Masarykovy univerzity v Brně, v Archivu Národní banky České republiky. Dalším nepostradatelným zdrojem informací byly soukromé archivy potomků Karla Engliše, osobní vzpomínky Karla Engliše a jeho současníků nebo rozhovory s jeho vnuky. The main goal of my dissertation is to analyze the personality of Engliš, who was an important representative of the scientific and financial elites during the period of the First Republic. I will venture to explain the causes of his rise during the First Republic and aim to characterize his relations with other elites. The term "elite" refers not only to representatives of the political and financial life of the First Republic, but also to the important leaders of its scientific and cultural scenes. In my dissertation I want to address the relationships between the elite of the First Republic and Karel Engliš. Public opinion played an important role in the relations between Engliš and the elite of the First Republic, in particular as Engliš was presented in the media and how the public perceived him. His family was supportive of Karel Engliš but also caused him many problems.
