Místní cizinci: Prostor, identita a kultura pražských expatů

Abstract

Tato práce se zabývá vztahem mezi prostorem, kulturou a identitou. Jejím cílem je poukázat na to, že kultura a identita není nutně spojena s prostorem, ve kterém lidé žijí. Práce se opírá o myšlenky autorů, kteří poukazují na životní zkušenost migrantů jako na příklad "rozpojení" prostoru, kultury a identity. Pro vlastní výzkum autorka zvolila prostředí společenství pražských expatů a provedla kvalitativní výzkum sestávající z 2 zúčastněných pozorování v místech setkávání expatů, 2 rozhovorů s expaty a obsahové analýzy 7 novinových článků zmiňujících expaty. Pomocí analýzy autorka popisuje vnímání společenství samotnými expaty, jejich interakci s místní společností a povahu míst setkávání. Jádro společenství expatů tvoří kultura anglofonních zemí a do hranic společenství se promítají geopolitické hranice. Sami expati rozlišují ostatní členy společenství na základě toho, zda (ne)žijí v "expat bublině", tj. zda (ne)navazují vztahy s místní společností. Skrze vztahy s Čechy a konzumaci české historie si expati vytvářejí obraz Čechů jako historicky utlačovaného, a proto uzavřeného národa. Identita míst setkávání expatů je založena na jejich označení jako "expat-friendly" a situovanosti v historických částech města, která místům propůjčuje autentičnost.

This thesis focuses on the relationship between space, culture and identity. Its goal is to portray how culture and identity are not necessarily connected to the space that people inhabit. It is based on the work of authors who point out the migrant experience as an example of the "disconnection" of space, culture and identity. The author chose Prague's expat community and carried out qualitative research consisting of 2 participant observations at expat meeting points, 2 interviews with expats themselves and a content analysis of 7 newspaper articles, which mention expats. The author describes the perception of the community through the expats' own words, their interaction with the local society and the nature of their meeting points. The core of the community consists of the culture of Anglophone countries and geopolitical borders penetrate the borders of the community. Expats themselves differentiate between other members of the fellowship based on their (non- )membership in the "expat bubble", e.g. (non-)existence of relationships with the local culture. Through relationships with Czechs and the consumption of Czech history, expats create the image of Czechs as historically oppressed, therefore a withdrawn nation.
