This bachelor thesis deals with the work of Czech documentary filmmaker and film essayist Karel Vachek. Its aim is to characterize the filmmaker's self-representation across his filmography, including his unrealized screenplays. It is divided into three chapters, which present different theoretical backgrounds and contextual historical information in order to outline Vachek's use of his own person as a key element of his films. The first chapter outlines the historical context of the director's career and analyses a selection of his early work using the concepts of voice and subject in documentary filmmaking. The second examines Vachek's work in terms of the typology of modes of documentary, particularly the performative mode. It charts the development of the filmmaker's entry into his work in the form of the on-camera subject and the subsequent use of performativity in his later work. In the last chapter, Vachek's films made after the Velvet Revolution are identified as essay films. The theory and history of this fluid form are used to characterize the work with respect to its idiosyncrasy, reflexivity, and the subjectivity underlying its structures. The considerations of performativity and the essay film help to understand the complicated structure of Vachek's works.en_US
První kapitola nastiňuje dějinný kontext režisérovy kariéry a analyzuje jeho vybranou práci z raného období tvorby pomocí pojmů hlasu a subjektu dokumentárního filmu. Hlediska performativity a esejistiky pomáhají pochopit komplikovanou strukturu Vachkových děl.cs_CZ
