This thesis elucidates the effect the rare earth elements have on maize (zea mays) in ideal watering condition and when exposed to drought. It compares two mutants of maize. One drought sensitive and second drought resistant. The experiment lasted five weeks, during which the leaf fluorescence was measured. The plants that were exposed to the REEs were watered by Hoagland solution with addition of Cerium, Erbium or Lanthan trichloride to reach the concerntration of 0,8 mM. At the eng of experiment fresh plants were measured and their biomass was determined. Acumulation of REEs in maize was established by ICP spectrometry, enzyme activity was detected by spectrophotometry and the leaf pigments were determined by HPLC-RP analysis. Key words: rare earth elements, antioxidative enzymes, photosynhetic pigments, acumulation, oxidative stress, hydroponicsen_US
