Vztahy mezi EU a GCC v kontextu syrské občanské války

Abstract

This bachelor thesis examines the impact the Syrian civil war had on the relations between the EU and the GCC. Given the geopolitical developments and security threats in the Middle east, the thesis seeks to determine, how these two organizations reacted to the conflict in Syria and how their cooperation evolved during this period. The author of the thesis adopts the approach of neoliberal institutionalism and works with the concepts of interdependence and the role of institutions. The thesis aims, through a case study of the Syrian civil war and a content analysis of primary and secondary sources, to answer the research question of whether the war had any impact on relations between the EU and the GCC and to identify factors that contributed to the potential streghtening or weakening of cooperation. The thesis examines reactions at the beginning of the war, during its course, and after the capture of Idlib. The results show that during the conflict itself, relations were not significantly affected, but the war led to them strengthening in the later years.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tím, jaký dopad měla na vztahy mezi EU a GCC občanská válka v Sýrii. S ohledem na geopolitický vývoj a bezpečnostní hrozby na Středním východě se práce pokouší zjistit, jak tyto dvě organizace reagovaly na konflikt v Sýrii a jak se jejich spolupráce během tohoto období vyvíjela. Autor práce vychází z přístupu neoliberálního institucionalismu a pracuje s koncepty vzájemné závislosti a role institucí. Práce si klade za cíl skrze případovou studii občanské války v Sýrii a obsahovou analýzu primárních a sekundárních zdrojů odpovědět na výzkumnou otázku, jestli na vztahy mezi EU a GCC nějaký vliv měla, a identifikovat faktory, které stojí za případným zesílením nebo oslabením jejich spolupráce. Práce zkoumá reakce na začátku války, během jeho trvání a po dobytí Idlibu. Výsledky ukazují, že během samotného konfliktu v zásadě ovlivněny nebyly, ale vedl k posílení v pozdějších letech.
