Úvahy Alexise de Tocqueville o básnictví: Rozbor a vybrané interpretace

Abstract

Předložená bakalářská práce se zabývá úvahami o básnictví Alexise de Tocqueville, obsaženými v první části Demokracie v Americe II., a vybranými interpretacemi těchto úvah v odborném anglofonním diskurzu od roku 1960 až po současnost. V práci postupně představujeme celkem tři interpretace Tocquevillových úvah o poezii. První interpretaci nabízí Teddy Brunius ve studii Alexis de Tocqueville: Sociologický estetik, druhou interpretaci nabízí Jason Frank v knize Demokratické vznešeno: O estetice a lidových shromážděních a třetí interpretaci nabízí Jin-gon Park v článku Demokracie a Tocquevillova estetika revoluce. Cílem práce je ukázat, že ani jedné z vybraných interpretací se Tocquevillovy úvahy o poezii nedaří vyčerpat, neboť všechny tři selhávají alespoň v jednom z následujících ohledů: Buď Tocquevillovy úvahy o poezii dostatečně neukotvují v kontextu Demokracie v Americe, nebo dostatečně nerozvádí (případně zcela vynechávají) některé z jejich stěžejních momentů či aspektů. K doložení našeho tvrzení slouží rozbor Tocquevillových úvah o poezii v závěrečné kapitole práce. V závěrečné kapitole se zabýváme jednak místem Tocquevillových úvah o poezii v rámci Demokracie v Americe, jednak vlastní Tocquevillovou koncepcí poezie. This bachelor thesis focuses on Alexis de Tocqueville's reflections on poetry, contained in the first part of the second volume of Democracy in America, and their selected interpretations in anglophone discourse from year 1960 to the present. In the thesis we consecutively introduce three interpretations of Tocqueville's reflections on poetry. The first interpretation comes from Teddy Brunius's study Alexis de Tocqueville: The Sociological Æsthetician, the second interpretation comes from Jason Frank's book The Democratic Sublime: On Aesthetics and Popular Assembly and the third interpretation comes from Jin-gon Park's article Democracy and Tocqueville's aesthetics of the revolution. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate that not even one of the selected interpretations introduces Tocqueville's reflections on poetry in full, since all of them fail at least in one of these regards: Either they do not sufficiently anchor Tocqueville's reflections on poetry in the context of Democracy in America, or they do not develop enough (eventually ignore altogether) some of their key moments or aspects. To prove our point we analyse Tocqueville's reflections on poetry in the final chapter of the thesis.
