Mezi vysokou kulturou a dělnickou třídou: typografické komunity v Lipsku, Vídni a Praze v letech 1840-1914

Abstract

Jako základní matérii následující práce jsem zvolil typografické komunity v Lipsku, Vídni a Praze. Na jejich příkladu budu v transnacionální perspektivě sledovat široké téma proměny kolektivních identit, idejí a strategií dělnictva v éře základních technologických, ekonomických, sociálních, politických a kulturních změn od sklonku doby předbřeznové do počátku první světové války. Mým cílem je propojit tradici metodologicky poučené historiografie labour history posledních zhruba šedesáti let s úzce pojatými odborovými dějinami malého elitního oboru, které mají mezi typografy dlouhou tradici. Obecné téma práce rámuji jako utváření kolektivních identit manuálně pracujících v moderní době, které zde budu nazírat jako předpoklad pro kolektivní strategie a praxe jednání, jež budou také předmětem analýzy. Půjde o synchronní analýzu změn, jež ovlivňovaly celou společnost, s proměnami vlastní autoreflexe typografů. Důležitým tématem bude také výzkum napětí mezi vědomím přináležitosti k dělnické třídě a stavovským vědomím, které bylo mezi typografy obzvláště silné. Osobně vnímám jako hlavní empirický i metodologický přínos práce v propojeném sledování typografických tradic, symbolů a kolektivních identit utvářených po několik staletí s jejich kolektivními strategiemi a praxemi jednání v období vrcholného...

I have chosen the typographic communities in Leipzig, Vienna and Prague as the basic material for the following doctoral thesis. I will use their examples to trace, in a transnational perspective, the broad theme of the transformation of workers' collective identities, ideas and strategies in an era of fundamental technological, economic, social, political and cultural change from the end of the pre-March period to the beginning of the First World War. My aim is to combine the tradition of methodologically informed labour history of the last sixty years or so with the narrowly conceived trade union history of a small elite field that has a long tradition among typographers. I frame the general theme of the thesis as the formation of collective identities of manual workers in modern times, which I will here view as a precondition for the collective strategies and practices of negotiation that will also be analyzed. This will involve a synchronic analysis of the changes that have affected society as a whole with the changes in typographers' own self- reflection.
