Současné operativní družice MSG (Meteosat druhé generace) byly primárně navrženy na standardní snímání celého zemského disku v intervalu 15 minut. Úprava snímacího algoritmu družic MSG však umožňuje i kratší intervaly snímání.
Present, Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellites were primarily designed to operate at a 15-minute scan interval, covering the entire global surface area of the Earth. However, adjustments to the scan algorithms enable shorter scan intervals. Since 2008 EUMETSAT has operated one of its backup satellites at a 5-minute scan mode (Rapid Scanning Service, RSS), while the prime MSG satellite continues with a global coverage service at 15-minute intervals. In fall 2012 and spring and summer 2013, EUMETSAT carried out several tests with an even shorter interval, with a repetition cycle of 2.5 minutes. This experiment was stimulated by scientific reasons, as well as in preparation for the future Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) system. The paper focuses in detail on the motivations behind the experiment, its implementation, and on some of its early results.cs
