Deep hard coal mining manifests itself in the landscape in a specific way: primarily through anthropogenic landforms and secondarily through land cover changes not directly related to mining activity. A majority of these displays can be interpreted using aerial photos. Multitemporal data then make it possible to analyse the development of identified displays. However, correct interpretation is based on a profound acquaintance with the displays of deep coal mining in aerial photos. This article focuses on the identification of primary and secondary displays of deep hard coal mining in aerial photos as well as the interpretation of elementary landscape processes that are conditioned by mining.en
