Vztah médií a politické moci. Srovnání postavení novinářů na Slovensku v době vlád Roberta Fica a Vladimíra Mečiara

Abstract

This bachelor thesis analyses the position of journalists during the Robert Fico (ie. in 2006- 2010, 2012-2016 and 2016-2018) governments and compares it with the situation of journalists in Slovakia during the era of "Mečiarism" in the 1990s. The murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée in February 2018, which reopened the issue of media freedom and the position of journalists in the country, was the impetus for choosing the topic. The thesis is based on theoretical works dealing with the position of the media in democracy, media freedom and the relationship between the media and politics. Furthermore, it largely focuses on the analysis of relations between journalists and politicians in both periods and draws conclusions on this basis. The aim of my thesis is to find out how the position of journalists under Robert Fico has changed, or on the contrary resembled the situation in the 1990s. The thesis emphasizes the comparison of specific tools and pressures that were used to restrict media freedom in both periods.

Práce analyzuje postavení novinářů během vlád Roberta Fica (tzn. v letech 2006-2010, 2012- 2016 a 2016-2018) a srovnává je se situací novinářů na Slovensku během tzv. mečiarismu v 90. letech 20. století. Impulzem k výběru tématu byla vražda investigativního novináře Jána Kuciaka a jeho snoubenky v únoru roku 2018, která znovuotevřela otázku svobody médií a postavení novinářů v zemi. Práce je založena na teoretických pracích pojednávajících o postavení médií v demokracii, mediální svobodě a vztahu médií a politiky. Dále se z velké části soustředí na rozbor vztahů novinářů a politiků v obou zmíněných obdobích a na tom základě vyvozuje závěry. Cílem mé práce je zjistit, v čem se postavení novinářů za Roberta Fica změnilo, nebo v čem se naopak podobalo situaci v devadesátých letech. Práce klade důraz na srovnání konkrétních nástrojů a tlaků, které byly v obou obdobích využívány k omezování svobody médií.
