uk.abstract.enThe study aims to present, reflect on and attempt to systematically define the Catholic perspective on the concept of global governance, as it is derived from key historical theological impulses of Catholic social teaching in the context of the theoretical debate from the points of view of the plurality of the theory of international relations and the plurality of the newer social thinking of Catholic orientation, using the historical, descriptive, comparative and normative method. By interpreting the texts of Catholic social teaching and analysing the Popes’ secondary statements, the study concludes that Catholic social teaching –as well as the older and newer dominant tradition of theological thought –most accords with the “weak” conception of global governance, which is based on a deep conviction of the unity of humanity as a whole and on a “weak” conception of human rights deriving especially from the classical iusnaturalist tradition. The declared requirement of the assertion of a world political authority in fact conceals a view similar to the classical “liberal institutionalism” –as a requirement for maintaining and possibly improving the already existing architecture of the international order, based primarily on sovereign states and the United Nations Organization–not creating some radically different, more complex or more sophisticated forms of international ordering. This conception, which is free from requirements for “strong” global governance and an excessively expansive understanding of the concept of human rights, is at the same time an excellent starting point for intercivilizational and interreligious dialogue.cs_CZ
