Pojetí ženské krásy a ošklivosti v renesanci

Abstract

"There is no excellent beauty, that hath not some strangeness in the proportion." Francis Bacon Female beauty defines not only physical attractiveness, but also ˗ to a greater extent than male beauty - social status. Ugliness has, on the other hand, been mocked, condemned, and even attributed to diabolical forces. Art bears witness to this. While beauty abides by the laws of proportionality, as is clear from the depictions of Venus, the ugliness of debauched old women attempts to awaken the viewer's moral sense. ,,Není skvělé krásy, aby nebyla v něčem nějak nesouměrná." Francis Bacon Ženská krása nedefinuje jen fyzickou přitažlivost, nýbrž i společenský status. Atraktivita v oblasti prosazení v kolektivu vždy více korelovala s ženským pokolením. V minulosti společnost ošklivost zesměšňovala, zatracovala a v krajním případě přisuzovala ďábelským silám. Krása odpovídá zákonům o proporcionalitě, kterou splňují například Venuše, ale přímo jim odporují vyobrazení zhýralých stařen, sloužících diváku k morálnímu procitnutí.
