This bachelor thesis is focused on the issues of sleep deprivation and chronotype during the stage of adolescence. The first part of the thesis deals with sleep and sleep deprivation. Several findings demonstrate the negative effects of a lack of sleep on somatic and mental health. It affects function of cognitive processes, emotional regulation. Furthermore, the risk of cardiovascular diseases increases. One of the most endangered stage are adolescents. Next, the different circadian types (or chronotypes) are described. The time of day that suits the best an individual for physical and cognitive activity, as well as their peak of performance, is determined by the circadian type. During the period of adolescence, young adults experience a peak in eveningness in contrast to morningness. They tend to fall asleep later at night and sleep in longer in the morning. Investigations indicate that evening-oriented students obtain worse results at school. The suggestion of this research project is focused on comparing both chronotype with the presence of sleep deprivation in adolescents. The circadian type will be diagnosed by the Composite scale of morningness. Sleep deprivation will be measured by the inventory SD-38 which has been designed for the need of this current study.en_US
