<description>Rekonstrukce čínských identit během období transformace: komparativní institucionální analýza v ČLR, na Tchaj-wanu a v Singapuru, 1987-1992
Práce tak ukazuje, že hranice čínské identity byly v každém případě institucionalizovány jiným způsobem: v ČLR byly jazykové a etnické rozdíly začleňovány do centralizovaného rámce státní...; 6 Abstract This thesis examines how political regimes in the PRC, Taiwan, and Singapore, between 1987 and 1992, delineated the boundaries of "Chinese identity" through language and ethnic policy. Nationalism is understood here as a modern political ideology that grounds the legitimacy of political power in the nation and creates the need to delineate the boundaries of the political community. These boundaries are concretized through the institutional practices of the state. On this basis, "Chineseness" is conceived as a process of institutional boundary-making, in which resources associated with the Chinese language, ethnicity, culture, and historical memory are politically processed. "Chinese identity" is then understood as an effect of these institutional practices. A qualitative comparative historical analysis follows from this conception and draws primarily on legal and political documents. Language policy and ethnic policy are analyzed as two main mechanisms of the institutional delineation of identity. The period 1987-1992 is understood as a critical juncture in which, as a result of international changes and domestic political transformations, the relations between language, ethnicity, and political membership were changing. The thesis thus shows that the boundaries of Chinese identity were...

<title>Ethics as the Backbone of Life: Svätopluk Štúr's Philosophy of Life and the Ethics of Social Consequences</title>

<description>Ethics as the Backbone of Life: Svätopluk Štúr's Philosophy of Life and the Ethics of Social Consequences
<title>"I Believe In Change": Subverting Inherited Patriarchal Narratives and Reimagining Community in Contemporary Croatia</title>

<description>"I Believe In Change": Subverting Inherited Patriarchal Narratives and Reimagining Community in Contemporary Croatia
Katerina Zulijani "I Believe in Change" : Subverting Inherited Patriarchal Narratives and Reimagining Community in Contemporary Croatia Diploma Thesis Abstract The aim of this thesis is to explore how contemporary young activists in Croatia challenge patriarchal norms inherited from the post - Yugoslav era. Through twelve semi - structured interviews, and three life - story narratives, I examine the strategies of resistance activists use against deeply embedded patriarchal structures and gendered legacies. The core research question, whether social belonging can be redefined outside of the patriarchal narrative is answered through diverse testimonies of participants who actively recontextualize the concept of belonging, and exist outside of the traditional system. Therefore, I position this research in the space of "in - betweenness" ; a site of constant negotiation between the post - Yugoslav inherited past and a present generation intent on disrupting those historical narratives. Within this hybrid space ; also defined as the Third Space, activists navigate inherited trauma to cultivate alternative forms of futurity rooted in caring communities and reconciliation. Ultimately, the need for a different future is perceived through a unified solidarity illustrating the liminality of navigating a painful past...

<title>Beyond Choice: Simone de Beauvoir and the Search for Authentic Freedom in a Neopatriarchal and Neoliberal World</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11956/214046</link>
<description>Beyond Choice: Simone de Beauvoir and the Search for Authentic Freedom in a Neopatriarchal and Neoliberal World
This thesis asks how Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist philosophy can help reconceptualise women's freedom as a situated, conscious, and collective practice rather than as the neoliberal-neopatriarchal illusion of unrestricted individual choice. It takes as its principal object the contemporary popular-feminist vocabulary, what the thesis names the choice register, and asks what this vocabulary can and cannot articulate about women's freedom under contemporary conditions. The thesis develops its argument in three chapters. Chapter 1 establishes, through a literature review of neoliberalism, neopatriarchy, postfeminist sensibility, and popular feminisms, the structural conditions under which the choice register is produced and rewarded. Chapter 2 conducts a close reading of The Second Sex and The Ethics of Ambiguity, recovering Beauvoir's six interlocking concepts (freedom, situation, transcendence and immanence, bad faith, reciprocity, responsibility) and carefully distinguishing her ontological framework, which the thesis defends, from her empirical-sociological analysis, to which the intersectional critique applies. Chapter 3 conducts a Critical Discourse Analysis, within Fairclough's three-dimensional framework, of twenty sources distributed across two cases (aesthetic labour and Boston...
