<title>„The Ionians at War?“ Die Waffenweihungen in den ionischen Heiligtümern und das Apollon‑Heiligtum von Didyma</title>

<description>„The Ionians at War?“ Die Waffenweihungen in den ionischen Heiligtümern und das Apollon‑Heiligtum von Didyma
Verčík, Marek
Weapons and armour were among the most frequent kinds of offerings made in the sanctuaries of the Greek world during the Archaic period. There exists an extensive bibliography and important theories concerning their significance. It was, however, only recently that most of the weapon votives preserved from about 130 cult places were analysed in summary. This synopsis pointed out certain differences in terms of chronology and chorology: the finds of weapons and armour were unearthed mainly in the Panhellenic or supra‑regional sanctuaries in the southern and central Greece (Olympia, Delphi, Kalapodi etc.), whereas the cult places in the eastern Aegean remained relatively poor in these dedications; in Attika and Magna Graecia on the other hand the amount of the votives only started to increase in the 6th c. BC. The aim of this study is to complement the picture of weapons and armour dedicated in sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world with the recently published and excavated finds from the eastern Aegean region of Ionia.

<title>Thirty Years of Interdisciplinary Research at the Site of Pistiros</title>

<description>Thirty Years of Interdisciplinary Research at the Site of Pistiros
Parvoničová, Lenka; Bouzek, Jan
The Thracian land was a very attractive place for the ancient Greeks and their economic expansion. At the end of the 5th century BC, the Greek inland emporion, known as Pistiros, was founded on the upper Maritsa River in inner Thrace, today south‑central Bulgaria. More than twenty‑five years of successful international cooperation of archaeology with environmental sciences has revealed the existence of a very important commercial centre with connections in the Thracian and the Aegean regions. The study summarizes the current state of research on the urbanized settlement and the river port. The environmental investigation, including the combined archaeobotanical and chemical analyses of organic residues in ceramics assessed here, as well as geomorphological research, contribute to a better understanding of the socio‑economic development of this unique archaeological site in Thrace.

<title>One Authority – One Idea – One Order. The Monetary System of the Amber Road as a Testimony of Greek Influence on Social and Economic Activities of central European Celts</title>

<description>One Authority – One Idea – One Order. The Monetary System of the Amber Road as a Testimony of Greek Influence on Social and Economic Activities of central European Celts
Smělý, Tomáš
Based on a unique bimetallic coinage system, an extensive coin production occurred in Central Europe in the Amber Road region, after the middle of the 3rd century BC. The entire area is characterised by uniformity of the coinage in multiple production sites. The ability to formulate a complex economic programme and, in particular, the implementation of such a programme for a long time, spanning several generations, and maintaining it politically as well as logistically, is a testimony of a strong central authority.

<title>On the Production and Distribution of the Ceramic Building Material in Vindobona</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.11956/100831</link>
<description>On the Production and Distribution of the Ceramic Building Material in Vindobona
Janek, Tomáš
This paper deals with the technical aspects of ceramic building material production in the brickyard located
near the legionary fortress of Vindobona (nowdays Vienna, Austria). First, the general procedures of brick
manufacture are described, then the paper focuses on the material from Vindobona itself. Tegulae, which
make up most of the preserved evidence, are also treated at some length. In comparison to other ceramic
building material, tiles are more distinguishable, thus more criteria can be observed. The observed criteria
were: treatment of the surface, proportions, types of lower cutaways and shape of flanges. On the basis of
these criteria, it is possible to distinguish differences in working procedures, which may relate to a change
of units in the fortress and an exchange of workers within one unit.
Attention is also paid to the economic aspect of production, which is reconstructed on the basis of the‑
oretical calculations. The amount of material necessary for the construction of camps was calculated along
with the estimated time which it took to produce this material and the necessary work‑power. The last part
deals with the distribution of bricks to the forts in the upper Pannonian Limes, with an attempt to determine
if the material was transported to the construction sites from Vindobona or was produced on the sites. The
results show it was more cost effective to transport the material over even long distances.
